After getting off to a horrendous start yesterday in their exhibition against Lithuania, Team USA came correct in today’s friendly versus a talented Spain team. In a game that would go down to the wire, Team USA squeezed out an 86-85 victory thanks to clutch free throw shooting and one great defensive stop.

It was a different Team USA to start the game – literally. Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski made some changes to the starting lineup, using Derrick Rose in place of Rajon Rondo, and Lamar Odom instead of Tyson Chandler. It worked, no doubt, as the Americans jumped out to a 16-3 run and Kevin Durant got off to a great start with six quick points. Interestingly, Team USA also opened up in a 2-3 zone, foreshadowing what would be so crucial to them later in the game. Holding Spain to 5-21 shooting and doing a great job on the boards, USA led 23-16 at the end of one. Keep in mind, they scored just 7 points in the first quarter of their match against France.
