As I was watching Ali, I couldn’t help but notice the photographer who seemed to be in nearly every scene Ali was. After doing my homework, I found out that the man who was everywhere, all the time, was Howard Bingham. Bingham followed Ali throughout his career, dating all the way back to his days on the amateur circuit as Cassius Clay. Bingham served as Ali-‘s personal photographer (and later, biographer), in addition to working for publications such as Life, Sports Illustrated, and Ebony. Thus, Howard Bingham has captured some of the best, dopest, most powerful images in the past 40+ years. Have a look:

1963. NY. Malcolm X + Ali.

1963. Miami. The Beatles + Ali.

1964. Chicago. Ali + Elijah and Herbert Muhammad.

1965. Las Vegas. Joe Louis + Ali.

1965. Harlem. Ali + Sidney Poitier.

1967. Howard University. Ali.

1967. Houston. Ali + Howard Cossell.

1970. L.A. Ali + Bill Cosby.

L.A. Little Richard.

1968. L.A. Eldridge Cleaver and Stokely Carmichael.

1968. NY. Black Panthers @ United Nations Building.

Greatness…
